Ryan Smokovitz

Ryan Smokovitz

Chief Executive Officer

Ryan joined HealthSouth Cincinnati in June 2015 as the associate administrator and was promoted to CEO in December 2016. Prior to joining HealthSouth Cincinnati, he served in various nursing leadership roles in multiple healthcare settings including his most recent role as the regional director of nursing for a provider of skilled nursing care, rehabilitation and respite care. He achieved his bachelor’s degree in nursing from Middle Tennessee State University and is currently pursuing dual master’s degrees in business administration and nursing.

Poluri, M.D.

Ashok Poluri, M.D.

Interim Medical Director

Dr. Poluri joined HealthSouth Cincinnati as the interim medical director in 2016. Previously, he served as the medical director at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Kentucky. He is board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Pain Medicine. Dr. Poluri completed his medical doctorate at Gandhi Medical College in India, his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Stony Brook University, his internship at Montefiore Medical Center and his interventional pain fellowship at the National Pain Institute in Florida.

Silke Bernert

Silke Bernert, M.D.

TBI Program Director

Dr. Bernert joined HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati in June 2017 as the hospitals’ traumatic brain injury program director. She comes to HealthSouth Cincinnati from HealthSouth’s hospital in Lexington, Kentucky where she served as medical director of the brain injury unit. Bernert is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and holds a subspecialty board certification in brain injury medicine. She achieved her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Heidelberg in Germany and completed her physical medicine and rehabilitation residency training at the University of Kentucky.

Berry Shelley

Shelley Berry

Business Development Director

Shelley’s career at HealthSouth began in 2012 as a rehabilitation liaison. During her time as a rehabilitation liaison, she was able to build and sustain relationships, promote the benefits of inpatient rehabilitation, and increase referrals in her territory. In 2014, she was promoted to director of marketing operations. Shelley is a respiratory therapist by background and has extensive experience in medical supply sales and healthcare marketing. She received a Bachelor of Science from the Kettering College of Medical Arts.

Dawn Bouman

Dawn Bouman, Ph.D

Program Director for Neuropsychology

Dr. Bouman received a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia, with emphasis in rehabilitation and neuropsychology. She currently provides inpatient and outpatient psychotherapy, adjustment counseling, and patient/family education to people with a variety of disabilities and illnesses, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, amputation, organ transplant, severe medical deconditioning, cancer, and other medical problems. In addition to leadership at HealthSouth, she also serves as Division Director for Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology in University of Cincinnati’s Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine. She reviews for Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation and has co-authored an invited chapter in The Handbook of Rehabilitation Psychology. Dr. Bouman is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Rehabilitation Psychology division of APA.

Gus Bowling

Gus Bowling

Director of Plant Operations

Gus Bowling has lived in the Greater Cincinnati area all of his life and currently resides in the Cincinnati area. He has 20 years of experience in the Healthcare industry and 15 years in Building Management. He started his career as a Maintenance Technician and later graduated to a Maintenance Supervisor. He has been with HealthSouth for 11 years and currently serves as the Director of Plant Operations and Safety Officer at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati.

Julie Brown

Julie Brown, RN

Chief Nursing Officer

Julie joined HealthSouth Cincinnati in September 2016 as a nurse manager and was promoted to chief nursing officer in 2017. She has more than 30 years of nursing experience in a variety of settings including acute care, long term acute care, home health, and post acute care. In addition, she has worked in the roles of case management and wound care consultant. Julie graduated from Northern Kentucky University with an associate’s degree in nursing.

Ken Snyder

Ken joined HealthSouth in 2015 with more than nine years of experience in public and corporate accounting. Prior to HealthSouth, he was an accounting manager at Mercy Health. Ken is a Certified Public Accountant and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from Ohio Northern University.

Whitney Timmerman

Whitney Timmerman

Director of Quality and Risk

Whitney joined HealthSouth Cincinnati in June 2017 as the quality risk coordinator then moved into the director of quality and risk position in May 2018. Prior to HealthSouth Cincinnati, she served as a clinical liaison and registered respiratory therapist in the Cincinnati area. Whitney achieved her master’s degree in health administration from the University of Cincinnati, a bachelor’s degree in health science from Northern Kentucky University and a degree in respiratory care technology from Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. 

Kelly Trueman

Kelly Trueman

Human Resources Director

Kelly joined HealthSouth in 2015. She brings more than 15 years of human resources experience to the role of human resources director at HealthSouth at Drake. Prior to joining HealthSouth, Kelly served as human resources coordinator at Select Specialty Hospital. She attended Cincinnati State Technical and Community College and Northern Kentucky University.

Joe Walsh

Joe Walsh, RPh

Director of Pharmacy

Joe was named director of pharmacy in September 2013. Before coming to HealthSouth he had served in a variety of roles including over 15 years as a clinical hospital pharmacist, most recently with Bethesda North Hospital and over 12 years as a clinical home infusion pharmacist with Coram Healthcare, the nation’s largest home infusion company. Joe obtained his pharmacy degree from the University of Cincinnati and also hold a Nuclear Pharmacy Certificate from the University of Southern California.

Katie Warnecke

Katie Warnecke, PT, DPT, NDT/C

Director of Therapy Operations

Katie’s career at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati began in 2011 as a physical therapist. During her time in the therapy department, she was promoted to physical therapy team lead, then to therapy manager. Katie holds two bachelor’s degrees from The University of Akron, a master’s degree in physical therapy from The Ohio State University and a doctorate in physical therapy from Shenandoah University.
